Dear guests, friends and colleagues!
First of all, I would like to congratulate the diplomats of Abkhazia on their professional holiday – the Day of diplomatic worker and to welcome the guests who arrived, and also everyone participating in this festive meeting here today.
Today is a significant date – 25th years since the establishment of the foreign ministry of the Republic of Abkhazia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was established in the critical time for the state. It played an important role in the development of the modern Abkhazian state and became an inseparable part of the modern history of our Republic.
During the years of its work, the diplomatic service of Abkhazia went through a difficult path of development, since its establishment until the day when it became the most important body of public administration. It managed to achieve significant progress in the solution of foreign policy tasks. In their work, Abkhazian diplomats always showed high professionalism and dedicated service to the Homeland. They defended the independence and national interests of the Republic of Abkhazia at the international arena.
All previous heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia made an invaluable contribution to its development.
By relying on the worthy traditions of its predecessors, the current staff of the Ministry continues to defend national interests at the international arena.
Today the foreign ministry of Abkhazia has an additional responsibility to take practical steps to ensure the strengthening of the status of Abkhazia as a sovereign, open and democratic state. In this work, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plays a coordinating role.
Abkhazia entered a new period of international development which is characterised by an ambiguous nature and course of international processes leading to an increase in the influence of regional states. Abkhazia is involved in an extensive range of political tendencies and events as an actor with sufficient potential. The Republic of Abkhazia is an important factor in regional stability. This opens additional prospects for the formation of its own foreign policy based on the universally recognised principles of equality and cooperation between states. I am certain that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will pass these tests with honour and will achieve new successes at work.
Abkhazia firmly insists on the necessity to respect international law, to interact with other states on the basis of the balance of interests, and not by imposing one’s interests on other states. We will consistently defend our independent foreign policy in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia which lies at the foundation of all our foreign policy.
Comprehensive expansion and deepening of the strategic partnership with the Russian Federation are some of the most important fields of the work of Abkhazian diplomacy. The development of relations with states that have recognised the independence of Abkhazia is one of the key priorities. The necessary work is ongoing to form a positive image of our state and create favourable conditions for further international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.
The foreign policy tasks of our state impose a special responsibility on all of us, and we are aware of that. I do not doubt that every employee of the foreign ministry, its representative and foreign offices will continue to work as responsibly as possible and help to solve serious issues raised by the state’s leadership.
In conclusion, dear colleagues, I would like to sincerely congratulate you once again on this day and to wish you successes in the field of diplomacy. I would also like to offer words of appreciation to all veterans of the diplomatic service that continue to pass on their experience and knowledge to the young generation.
Congratulations, dear friends!
And finally, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I have signed a Decree to award the next diplomatic ranks.
Please, announce the Decree.
