I sincerely congratulate you on this holiday – the Volunteer Day!
On August 15, 1992, on the next day after the start of the Georgian military aggression, the first detachment of North Caucasian volunteers led by Sultan Sosnaliyev came to the aid of the brotherly Abkhazian nation.
This event became a powerful factor in the strengthening of our morale and fighting capacity. The founder of the modern Abkhazian state Vladislav Ardzinba remarked: “We did not forget that morning when the first detachments of volunteers crossed the mountain pass and came to Gudauta. This news was passed on from one person to another and increased our strength tenfold”.
Brothers from the republics of North Caucasus, South of Russia, South Ossetia and Pridnestrovie, representatives of the diasporas of foreign countries stood by our side. United as one, all of them fought for victory over the enemy forgetting about mortal danger.
More than 260 volunteers died for the freedom of Apsny. We bow our heads before their memory and bow low to the mothers who brought up the heroes.
This year we celebrate a great event – the 25th anniversary of Victory in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia.
This is our common holiday.
For a quarter of a century, Abkhazia exists as a sovereign and independent state, despite the challenges of security, political and economic difficulties. In all these years, we did not lose the ties with the representatives of the volunteer movement. We sought to make sure that they are represented in the government, that they participate in the socio-economic life, and are involved in the economic processes.
Abkhazia will never forget the heroic deeds of the volunteers that became the symbol of unity in the name of victory.
I wish you, our dear brothers, strong health, prosperity and a peaceful sky above!
