The President's Speech at the Solemn March of the Ministry of Defenсe of the Republic of Abkhazia
Dear compatriots! Dear veterans! Dear guests!
Every year which is connected to the Day of the Great Victory of our people in the Patriotic War against the Georgian aggressors fills with deep meaning and significance our consistent fight for the restoration of national statehood, the roots of which go back to our centuries-old history.
Our heroic people have endured all the difficult trials in a cruel and bloody fight against the Georgian fascism.
In that fateful period, the founder of the modern independent Abkhazian state Vladislav Ardzinba, who stood at the origins of our Victory, praised highly and objectively the inner moral and spiritual readiness of our people: “This war was imposed on us. A decision was made to subjugate and destroy us… - he remarked, - but our people have endured in a just fight against those who tried to trample on our statehood. In this sacred fight, we have relied on brotherly help from the nations of North Caucasus, South of Russia, and all honest people of the world…”
The wise words of a great political leader once again call us back to those dramatic events, to that situation, when the defenders of occupied Abkhazia were supported by the representatives of all our foreign diasporas, such as volunteers from all brotherly republics of North Caucasus, South of Russia, Pridnestrovie, and other states of the near and far abroad.
I would like to express the most cordial wishes to all citizens of our republic, all our friends and well-wishers in the near and far abroad! May the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Victory never fade! We bow before the mothers and fathers of the heroes who died the death of the brave in the battles for the liberation of our Homeland! Happy Victory Day, dear compatriots!
