On December 1, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba held a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative Niels Scott.
Niels Scott thanked the Head of State for the meeting and the opportunity to present an annual report on the work which was done in Abkhazia during the year.
"This report contains information about the work of all our international organisations in Abkhazia. We hope that our work helps the citizens of the Republic", - said Niels Scott.
He remarked that the main areas of activity of the international organisations in the Republic are agriculture, ecology and healthcare. In his words, the fight with pests such as the brown marmorated stink bug was added to this list in 2017.
The President stressed that the opportunity to interact with international organisations is important to the Republic of Abkhazia. Speaking about the pests, he said that they caused great damage to agriculture.
"First there were pyralid moths. Now the biggest damage is caused by the marmorated bug. Measures, including those taken by international organisations, to fight with the pests have brought some result but it is not sufficient. We cannot yet say that the situation has changed completely. Only joint efforts can help us to change the situation for the better", - said the Head of State.
Raul Khadjimba added that the interaction with international organisations has a positive effect on other areas, such as the opportunity of the population to participate in small and medium-sized business. The President stressed that if the international community did not act on the basis of the concept of the so-called "territorial integrity", then greater results could have been achieved.
