On August 8, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadjimba had a meeting with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Pitsunda.
Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich,
it is a great honour for us all to welcome you on Abkhazian soil once again.
Thanks to the support from the Russian Federation, Abkhazia makes progress on the way to socio-economic development, it builds the infrastructure and solves questions of defence and security.
All those issues that we have discussed with you during our previous meetings are being solved in the interests of our people. The implementation of the Treaty on Alliance and Strategic Partnership of 2014 is systematically ongoing.
In particular, the Abkhazian side ratified the Agreement on the Information and Coordination Centre. We believe that this agency will become an important tool in fighting crime.
It is important to Abkhazia for its citizens and guests to live in comfortable conditions.
Intense work is being done by our foreign policy institutions to coordinate our foreign policies. Work is done on projects planned in the Investment program. The amount of funds this year will come to more than 2.5 billion rubles. The design and estimate documentation was previously prepared, tested and approved.
I would also like to comment on issues that are being solved with the help of the Investment agency. The amount of credits reaches 1.2 billion rubles. This is a real help to our medium-sized and large businesses.
Today an Agreement on Compulsory Health Insurance will be signed. This is an important event for the residents of Abkhazia who are citizens of the Russian Federation. I am certain that all the questions that we will discuss with you today will give our country even more opportunities for development. Abkhazia and its people are sincerely grateful to you for all those decisions that are made to develop our relations. I would like to point out once again that all those questions that have been mentioned today and that will be solved, will contribute to the strengthening of our relations.
I cannot help but note that today, the 8th of August, is a memorable date for the Republic of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. On this day, a large scale operation of the Georgian army began. Decisive actions undertaken by the leadership of Russia allowed the Republic of South Ossetia to survive. And of course, you have given a chance for the recognition of our small states, for which we are immensely grateful to you.
Raul Djumkovich, I am happy to be here in Abkhazia, on Abkhazian soil. I am very pleased to visit this place once again. You have listed almost all directions for our cooperation. I can point out our common work in the sphere of providing the defence capability of the republic. A united military group is being formed, and we have agreements on further steps. You have mentioned the Information Centre. Of course, it is a very important aspect, considering the fact that the citizens of Abkhazia and the guests, wherever they come from, including from Russia, should understand and feel that they are under reliable protection. I really hope that our common work will increase the level of security for the tourists in general. Speaking about the economy, you have named all the areas of cooperation. There is no need for me to repeat them. Concerning the social sphere, today we will sign an agreement that will allow the use not only of our health insurance system but will also allow the Russian hospitals to treat the citizens of Abkhazia. We have a lot to talk about, but the most important thing is that we have completely special relations with Abkhazia. We guarantee the security and independence of Abkhazia, and I am certain that it will continue this way. We have to find the best ways to develop the Abkhazian economy in order to create more jobs and a new tax base. We will talk about this today.
