On October 8, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba had a meeting with Rosa Khashba, widow of an artist and author of the sketches of the state awards and the state symbols Valery Gamgia.
The Head of State stressed the significant role of Valery Gamgia in the modern history of the Republic of Abkhazia and his contribution to the Victory in the Patriotic War.
“Valery has done a lot. The state symbols which were designed by him are of great importance to the task of state-building. Significant is his contribution to the Victory, the 25th anniversary of which we have recently celebrated,” - said the President.
The Head of State presented Rosa Khashba with the medal ‘For Victory’, which Valery Gamgia was posthumously awarded for his contribution to the Victory in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia of 1992-1993.
Adviser to the President on Culture, Science and Education Vladimir Zantaria commented on the role of Valery Gamgia in the national movement of liberation of the Abkhazian people.
“The name of Valery Gamgia is not to be forgotten. Valery is one of the founders of the National Forum of Abkhazia ‘Aidgylara’. He supported the artist, sculptor and public figure Marina Eshba in the matter of leaving the Georgian Union of Artists. In fact, he and his colleagues restored the independence of the Abkhazian Union of Artists”, - said Vladimir Zantaria.
