Dear compatriots! Dear veterans! Dear generals, officers and soldiers! Dear guests!
The Day of Victory and Independence that we celebrate together with our allies, brothers and friends became an inseparable part of our modern history. Our nation suffered deeply to reach the sacred freedom and sacrificed the lives of hundreds and thousands of its brave sons and daughters for this freedom. In this unequal fight with the Georgian troops that treacherously invaded the territory of Abkhazia in August 1992, we were together with our brothers from the North Caucasus, our foreign compatriots, volunteers from Russia, South Ossetia, Pridnestrovie and other states of the near and far abroad. At the call of the Confederation of the Peoples of the Caucasus, people came to our aid by thorny mountain trails. When they arrived in Abkhazia that was in the midst of fighting, they joined the ranks of its brave defenders! Our people will never forget the consolidating and organisational role of such brilliant and strong-willed individuals as Yuri Kalmykov, Sultan Sosnaliyev, Musa Shanibov, Yusup Soslambekov, Adam Huade and other recognised leaders in the formation of the all-Caucasus movement to support Abkhazia.
This powerful union of the fighters for justice became the main ideological weapon which the Georgian propaganda machine and the occupation regime that pursued a policy of overt genocide in controlled territories could not overcome.
Tanks, aviation and artillery were used against practically unarmed people. Civilians were bombed, and the monuments of culture were destroyed. Thousands of citizens of towns and districts of the republic suffered abuse. Many international organisations, including human rights organisations, intentionally kept quiet about the military crimes of the Georgian army and supported the self-righteous statements of Eduard Shevardnadze about the false reasons to lead troops into Abkhazia. International law was forgotten in the case of the Georgian military aggression.
However, the brave people of Abkhazia and the First Parliament headed by its great leader, founder of the Abkhazian state Vladislav Ardzinba succeeded in dispelling the lies that were systematically spread about the reasons of the start of the war. Thus, they inflicted a crushing defeat on those who tried to destroy our statehood once and for all and to deprive the Abkhazian ethnos of its historical memory.
The spirit of the victorious Abkhazian army was forged in battle. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Abkhazia was created in extreme military conditions, the battalions and brigades were formed, the interaction of all fronts increased and the rear was strengthened. Under the direct guidance of the Commander-in-Chief, an objective assessment of unsuccessful offensive operations was given, and measures were taken to fulfil the main tasks: to achieve the final expulsion of the enemy and the restoration of the state sovereignty of our country.
25 years is a relatively small period of time in the context of world history. However, for our nation, it is an entire epoch that is filled with fateful events. During this time, Abkhazia managed to cure the wounds that were caused by war. The sovereignty and independence of Abkhazia have been recognised by a number of states. Thanks to the full support of Russia, our ally and strategic partner, Abkhazia restores its economic potential, increases its defence capability and strengthens security. The recognition of the independence of Abkhazia by the Syrian Arab Republic became an important event in foreign policy.
Our people believe in their future! They treasure Victory that was achieved at the cost of irreplaceable losses. No one will succeed in bringing us back to the colonial past, neither the revanchist forces in Georgia nor the international actors who continue to feed such illusions.
Happiness to the victorious nation! Peace and prosperity to the Republic of Abkhazia! Peace and well-being to the brotherly nations that came to our aid in the days of severe trials!
