On June 8, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba gave a speech at a reception in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Abkhazia on the occasion of the Russia Day.
Dear Aleksey Arkadyevich! Dear guests of this festive meeting!
The Russia Day is a special date that is full of deep symbolic meaning. On June 12, 1990, an outstanding event took place in the life of a friendly state: the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian SFSR was adopted.
On the way to its revival, Russia went through many difficult trials, and it endured them with dignity. Today Russia is becoming one of the main players of world geopolitics. Its defensive and military capacity increased. Despite the sanctions and the attempts to create an economic isolation which are made by the West, Russia continues to strengthen its economic security step by step. Russian science and culture continue to have a significant positive impact on the development of the international scientific, educational and cultural potential.
The citizens of Abkhazia feel deep respect for today’s historical event and for the destiny of Russia as a whole, to its glorious past, dignified present and future. This is because our people and our countries are connected by centuries-old friendly ties.
Russia was the first to recognise the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia. It gives us great support in the difficult process of the revival of our statehood, economic and cultural possibilities of our state and the protection of its national interests. We fully feel the comprehensive support of a friendly and allied state. Our cooperation brings real results and has great prospects.
Please allow me to sincerely congratulate all of you and to wish you peace, well-being, prosperity and new achievements for the benefit of the brotherly people of Russia and the Russian-Abkhazian friendship which is based on trust and mutual respect!
