On October 14, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba expressed condolences to the representatives of the Abkhazian diaspora and the Syrian public in connection with the death of a prominent military and public figure of the Syrian Arab Republic, General Walid Marshan Abaza.
It is with deep grief that the news of the death of a prominent military and public figure of the Syrian Arab Republic, General Walid Marshan Abaza was received in Abkhazia. He enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as a true patriot of Syria, who has made a significant contribution to the defence of its national interests. For many years, he was Deputy Chief of the Political Department of the Security Service of the Syrian Arab Republic. His achievements in the fight against terrorist and anti-government forces are well-known. He was a recognised and respected leader of the Syrian Abkhazian-Circassian diaspora who did a lot to strengthen ties with his historic Homeland.
The memory of a prominent military commander, state and public figure, a worthy son of the Abkhazian people will always stay in our hearts. I express deep condolences to the friends and relatives of the deceased and to all those who were close to him, to the representatives of the Abkhazian diaspora, and the public of the friendly Syria which courageously defends its independence.
