On September 8, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba held a meeting with the volunteers who participated in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia of 1992-1993 and their families in Nalchik.
The President greeted the participants of the meeting and told them about the situation in Abkhazia, about the state of the economy, security, social, political and cultural development in the state.
“There are difficulties but we are doing our job, fighting crime and creating opportunities for our country to look completely different. I hope that many of those who participated in the war, and also those who live in Abkhazia, our citizens who are originally from Kabardino-Balkaria and who came to us as volunteers, will actively participate in this.
Speaking about the socio-economic problems of those men who participated in the war and of their families, we do everything we can. We do not say that we have a lot of possibilities, but they exist.
This allows us to support these families and to show that we did not forget anything.
There will be better times when we will be able to support them more.
You are our brothers, no matter which organisations you represent.
I would not want you to think that we support only some people and not others.
Our brothers and sisters died not for personal interests, but for the freedom of Abkhazia. Our task is to create opportunities for the future generations that will allow us to continue these relations, so that the future generations of Abkhazians and Kabardians, and other nations of North Caucasus would develop these relations in the name of peace and goodness”, - said the President.
A member of the board of the Union of Abkhazian Volunteers of Kabardino-Balkaria Zalim Tkhaitsukov supported the President.
“25 years passed since the end of the war. This period is too short to heal all wounds. Yet, to unite and to be together, we should be on the same side, as it was during the war. We should be a single front”, - he said.
A member of the board of the Union of Abkhazian Volunteers of Kabardino-Balkaria Anzor Shorov spoke about the events held by the organisation in the last years.
Deputy Chairman of the Congress of the Kabardian People during the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia of 1992-1993 Zhantemir Gubachikov remarked that the war was a test of fraternity and friendship between Abkhazia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
“I think that our volunteers who participated in this war, together with our Abkhazian friends, proved by their courage and their character that there are truly no closer nations than Abkhazians, Kabardians and the Adyghe people. I am proud to be a citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia and to be a recipient of an Order as a representative of the home front. I was Deputy Chairman of the Congress of the Kabardian People and so I was in the midst of the socio-political situation, also in matters of assisting and supporting our volunteers. This common participation in the war to defend Abkhazia and its people was one of the brightest pages in the history of friendship between Abkhazians and the Adyghe people. We should be always proud of it. This is why I would like to express gratitude to the President of Abkhazia and the Government who pay a lot of attention to the issues of assisting and supporting the participants of the war, volunteers, and also their families”, - said Zhantemir Gubachikov.
He also mentioned a number of suggestions to strengthen cooperation between Abkhazia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
Participating in the meeting with the President, there were representatives of the Abkhazian student community of Nalchik and the national cultural centre of the Fund of Culture of Kabardino-Balkaria “Abkhazia”.
From the 7th to the 9th of September, Raul Khadzhimba is on a visit to the Kabardino-Balkar Republic at the invitation of the Head of Kabardino-Balkaria Yuri Kokov to attend the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Statehood and the 460th anniversary of the unification of the peoples of Kabardino-Balkaria and Russia.
