The President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba participated in the opening of the 5th International basketball competition among male teams dedicated to the memory of the first President of the Federation of basketball of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh.
The Prime-minister Artur Mikvabiya, head of the Administration of Sukhumcity Adgur Kharaziya, the members of Parliament also participated in the opening ceremony.
In his welcome address the Prime-minister Mikvabiya underlined that Sergey Bagapsh lived a life of not only a bright politician, head of state, but he also did a lot to develop sports in Abkhazia, basketball in particular.
The audience had a moment of silence in the memory of the second President of the Republic of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh.
The President of the Federation of basketball Timur Bganba congratulated the team with the opening and wished them sports success.
The tournament will continue until July 6. This year five teams from different districts of Russia and the team of the Republic of Abkhazia will participate at the tournament.
