On August 6, a meeting took place in Sochi between President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
Vladimir Putin: I am happy to see you again. We have agreed earlier to have this meeting in order to see the progress of our work and the implementation of development plans, in particular, those projects that have we have discussed before. First of all, it is social development plans. We need to discuss what has been done and what remains to be done in the near future. Secondly, our meeting takes place before the elections in Abkhazia. I hope that they will take place in strict accordance with the democratic principles and will contribute to further stabilisation of the republic, both economically and democratically.
Raul Khadzhimba: Thank you for the opportunity to meet with you and discuss important questions of our intergovernmental relations and the work that is carried out as part of the Investment Program and the Investment Agency. Today, socially-important facilities, such as schools and pre-school institutions for children are being completed. Work on the energy system is ongoing, thanks to the financial help from Russia. Roads are being built. Also, the work that we have discussed with you concerning our defence institutions and law enforcement bodies is important to us. We should also comment on the projects that we have discussed prior, the implementation of which will give Abkhazia an opportunity to develop economically. This includes questions of transport communication, such as sea and air transport. Allow me once again, on behalf of the people of Abkhazia, to thank you for the attention that you give Abkhazia.
