On March 30, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba attended the farewell ceremony with the participants of the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia of 1992-1993, who have been identified as part of the work of the Committee on the Missing Persons and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The remains of Akhmed Khamitov and Raul Tsvizhba were identified.
Akhmed Khamitov participated in military action as a volunteer. He was member of the battalion “Gorets” (“Highlander”). In 1994, by Decree of President of the Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba, he was posthumously awarded the title of “Hero of Abkhazia”.
Akhmed Khamitov died in 1993, when his landing party tried to land on the mountain Akhbyuk.
Raul Tsvizhba fought in the 3rd battalion “Pakuash” of the 3rd regiment of the Eastern Front. He died in 1993 in a helicopter crash on the Marukh pass. Raul Tsvizhba was awarded the medal “For bravery” posthumously.
The official farewell ceremony took place in the Park of Military Glory. The burial of Raul Tsvizhba’s remains will take place in his native village Pakuash, Ochamchira District. The remains of Akhmed Khamitov will be buried in his native village in the Chechen Republic.
