President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba introduced for the consideration of the People’s Assembly-Parliament a draft law on amending the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Republic of Abkhazia that would aim to combat organised transnational crime and the thief community.
The draft law adds to the Criminal Code the new forms of participating in crime and also establishes new offences. In particular, the draft law provides for the establishment of criminal liability for:
- the establishment and management of a transnational organised criminal group or a transnational criminal society (transnational criminal organisation);
- the financing of an organised group, criminal community (criminal organisation), thief community, a transnational organised group, or a transnational criminal community (transnational criminal organisation).
The draft law also provides for the establishment of criminal liability for membership in the thief community.
The draft law was designed to strengthen the fight against organised crime.
