On January 31, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba held a meeting of the Security Council during which questions of internal and foreign policy were discussed.
Minister of Health Tamaz Tsakhnakia, Minister of Economy Adgur Ardzinba, Chairman of the State Property Committee Vakhtang Pipia, and Head of the Ecology Institute Roman Dbar were invited to the meeting of the Security Council.
Tamaz Tsakhnakia reported to the members of the Security Council about the situation of the spread of the seasonal flu virus and the upper respiratory tract infection among the population, and also the registered cases of the H1N1 flu. He stressed that temporary measures to introduce quarantine at the border on the Ingur River cannot completely stop the spread of the virus. Nevertheless, they bring significant results.
The Head of State said that these measures are compulsory because they ensure the security of the population.
The Security Council listened to the reports of the Minister of Economy Adgur Ardzinba and Head of the Ecology Institute Roman Dbar on the issues related to the hydrocarbon exploration and environmental safety. The Minister of Economy remarked that according to the conditions of the agreements that have been reached earlier, geological exploration works are in the plans, but they will take a long time. It is early to speak of the extraction of raw materials. Head of the Ecology Institute Roman Dbar explained that the examination of wells closed since the Soviet times, which is being carried out as part of the implementation of the agreements, is necessary for environmental safety.
Chairman of the State Property Committee Vakhtang Pipia informed those present about the measures which are implemented by the Government in accordance with the President’s instruction on the issue of the air traffic resumption. The President gave an instruction to report weekly on the results of the work of the working group which is chaired by the Prime Minister. The Head of State remarked that successful implementation of this project will play an important role in the development of our state.
Lastly, the Security Council discussed foreign policy issues and listened to a report by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Daur Kove about the work which is carried out by the Ministry in the countries of Latin America and the Middle East.
