On January 29, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khadzhimba held a meeting on the questions of the issue of passports of the citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia and residence permits.
Head of the Passports Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Eduard Manargia informed the participants of the meeting that at present, 99345 passports have been issued, 9550 are ready to be issued, and 10220 are being processed.
Eduard Manargia also reported to the Head of State about the number of issued and ready to be issued passports of a new sample, documents that are being processed in every district, and also similar data on residence permits.
The President tasked the Passports Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to pass to the heads of district and city administrations the lists of citizens who have not been collecting their new passports for a long time and also those who have not submitted their documents to replace the passports, so that local administrations could be of assistance in this process.
The Head of State also stressed that the updated information of the Passports Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should arrive on time for the processing by the Central Election Commission because of the upcoming elections of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Minister of Internal Affairs Garri Arshba remarked that the Ministry is ready to assist the district and village administrations to speed up the process of the issue of passports, including visits by the employees of the Passports Department to the citizens upon request.
On behalf of the President, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the heads of district administrations will resume information work urging the population to replace the passports.
Within a week, the heads of towns and districts will report on the results of the work to replace the passports of the citizen of the Republic of Abkhazia.
